Jenson Button claims that Red Bull Racing should not ‘worry’ after disappointing results – Formula 1
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that Red Bull Racing team should not worry despite the fact that they have been unable to win races since the past three events of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“Red Bull should be really worried because I think that we are closing in on them in the race and in qualifying. I am very thankful to the team, as they've done a brilliant job - not only in the race but also for qualifying. They've done a fantastic job
over the last couple of races, so this victory is a good way of going into the summer break,” he said.
RBR are still faster than both McLaren and Ferrari in terms of qualifying pace but they are way behind them in terms of race pace.
Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton were comparatively much faster than Vettel during the early stages of the Hungarian Grand Prix and they easily took over his lead despite the face that the reigning world champion started from pole position.
“Well, we've won three out of the last five races, so yes, it is looking pretty good for us. It is just a pity for me that I had these reliability issues at the last two races and that probably ruined my championship,” said Button.
Sebastian Vettel still has a very comfortable lead ahead of his rivals though as he is still more than 70 points ahead of all of his closest rivals namely Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber.
It seemed before the Hungarian Grand Prix that Button might help his teammate at his utmost but due to some unforeseen circumstances, the McLaren driver had to take the win which did benefit the championship contenders.
Nevertheless, the 2009 Formula 1 champion added that the pressure is definitely on RBR now as they have been unable to win the past three races. Despite ruling out his own championship chances earlier on, Button is still optimistic about his 2011 run as
he stated that in order to close in on Vettel, he will need to defeat him at each race which is exactly what he is aiming for.
