Jenson Button concerned about his car’s reliability ahead of the Canadian GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button is concerned over his car’s reliability after the free Friday practice session of the 2013 Canadian Grand Prix and expressed that they could not collect the essential data to make further progress.
Button seemed quite comfortable behind the wheel of his car during the first practice session at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and came second in the timesheets. However, he failed to keep up the level of his pace in the second session and could only set the
ninth best time. Besides, he only covered 29 laps because of which he failed to gather the necessary information about the car’s updates which could be used to make further advancement.
The British driver said that they tried to test some new parts in their car in Friday practice, but could not get the expected mileage.
“We were trying something in that session that was quite interesting but we didn't get information because I did three laps on high fuel,” he said. “We would be very brave to put that part if we've only done three laps on it. We had that issue last year
and when I also had gearbox problem and then disastrous race because of rear graining.”
In addition, he said that they needed a reliable car so that they could test its parts to make the desired progress for the qualifying and the race. Nonetheless, he asserted that they are quite contented with their run as they managed to gather some information
about their upgrades.
“We needed the car to be reliable and it wasn't today. But there is a lot info to look at on both cars and they were running very different set-ups and downforce levels, so at least we got some information,” he added.
At present, the 2009 world champion is standing at 10th place in the Drivers’ Championship with 25 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Adrian Sutil of Force India and behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus. He has faced some huge technical and tyre management issues
in the season so far. Let’s see how he performs in this weekend’s race.
