Jenson Button concerned with the pace of MP4-27 – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button says that he is concerned with the pace of his car MP4-27 after he scored only two points in 2012 Spanish Grand Prix held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona.
The British driver struggled with the tyre management and the setup of the car during the qualifying of the Spanish GP and could not be able to make his way into Q3. Afterwards, he faced the same difficulties in the race and could only secure 9th place finish.
Button said that after the qualifying, he expected that he might be able to improve his performance in the race but due to lack of pace, he finished at quite an uncompetitive position.
“The most important thing is to understand why I didn't have any pace over the weekend on low and high fuel. Even if qualifying doesn't go well, normally we get some points in the race, but I couldn't look after my tyres and I didn't have any pace. It's
something that's a concern,” he said.
On the other hand, he admired the performance of his teammate, Lewis Hamilton who even after starting the race from the last grid position, managed to secure 8th position in the race. However, he said that they still need to enhance the pace of their car
for the forthcoming races.
“Yes, Lewis did a fantastic job in qualifying, and the team did well to produce a car like that. In the race you can say Lewis again did a good job, which he should be happy with, but still the pace isn't there,” he said.
Nonetheless, he asserted that they were not the only contender who faced issues with their pace while he said that there were many top teams like Red Bull Racing which lacked pace as compared to Williams, Sauber-Ferrari, Lotus and Ferrari.
Over and above, he said that it is very hard to predict about the upcoming races as there have been five different winners who ran on completely different cars’ setups in the first five races of the season so far. Nevertheless, he said that he is positively
looking forward to perform well in the next race at Circuit de Monaco on May 27.
