Jenson Button confident of finding grip in Valencia despite struggling in FP1 and FP2 – Formula 1
The 2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button is confident that he will get over the problems he was facing in Valencia during the two practice sessions of the European Grand Prix on Friday.
Button had a disappointing second session as he finished in 6th place in the timesheets behind Michael Schumacher and Felipe Massa mainly because of the fact that he struggled to find some rear-end grip.
Most of the drivers claim that the grip level of the circuit in Valencia was very low. Fernando Alonso, Kamui Kobayashi, Sergio Perez and many other drivers were quite noticeably struggling to find some grip.
“In the afternoon, I did a bit more running and tried both tyre compounds. The prime proved quite difficult to switch on, and consequently we couldn't find good balance with it. I think we've got a good balance on the option though - and, because the track
will grip-up quite a lot with every session we run, we're now heading in the right direction balance-wise with the prime too,” said Button.
His teammate Lewis Hamilton on the other hand finished in 2nd place in the timesheets just 2 tenths behind Fernando Alonso’s fastest time of the session while Sebastian Vettel scored the 3rd place in the timesheets which was quite a
disappointing result for him.
However, Button claims that these times do not matter much and that the true pace of each car would be more evident during the qualifying session and the final practice session on Saturday.
“I wasn't paying too much attention to the times today, as it was more important to work with our engineers to get the car working on both sets of tyres,” he added.
After securing the victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, the former world champion is hoping of challenging for wins more actively than he was before.
Nevertheless, in order to do that, Button would have to score some good performances consistently and avoid as many mistakes as he can to take the advantage. Let’s see if he can do that.
