Jenson Button considers Lotus favourite for 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button considers Lotus favourite for 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
“The cars that look very fast to me are the Lotuses,” Button said. “If you look at the runs, when they're out, they're very competitive, so I would say the Lotus is probably the car to beat this weekend.”
Furthermore, Button’s teammate, Lewis Hamilton also believes that the British team has performed amazingly well with their competent car E20.
“I think the Lotus is massively quick,” Hamilton said. “Not really quite sure what the Red Bull is up to but I'm sure they'll be quick. The Ferrari is very quick.”
Lotus have emerged as one of the most competitive contenders with the perfect blend of expertise and talented pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
At present, they are at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 86 points. Moreover, they are 25 points ahead of Mercedes AMG and 22 points behind McLaren.
Meanwhile, Raikkonen is standing at 6th position in the drivers’ championship with 51 points. Additionally, he is 6 points ahead of Jenson Button and 8 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes. Besides, he secured impressive second and third podium finishes
in the fourth and fifth races.
On the other hand, his teammate, Grosjean has also performed quite convincingly in the season so far as he is presently at 8th place in the drivers’ rankings with 35 points. In addition, the French driver is 6 points ahead of Pastor Maldonado of Williams
and 10 points behind Button.
It will be important to mention that during the start of the season, the team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier said that they should not be deemed as second class team anymore as they have got all the potential to stand amongst the top teams.
He also said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in the forthcoming races. Above and beyond, he said that they are trying their best to make the necessary preparations and the essential developments so as to improve the pace of their
car in order to fight for the championship title this year.
