Jenson Button defeated but not destroyed
While talking to the media a little while ago, the McLaren driver, Jenson Button said that he is not "disappointed" for having failed to defend his World title.
The British driver after his return from Brazil, talked to the media earlier today, saying that he would have been happier if the battle was not over for him till the last race of the season, but still he does not consider the
season as a complete “disappointment” for him.
He says that it was sad to be no more a reigning World Champion yet he has the 2009 triumph stamped in his career history which nobody could ever take away.
The 30 year old lost his title hope at the same track, Interlagos, where he secured the championship last year. The driver finished yesterday’s race at fifth place, the same finish that he embraced last year as well, but this season the situation had been
very different. While the fifth place ending in 2009 guaranteed his victory, this season’s fifth place has drawn him out of the tug for the title.
While talking to some of the leading newspapers today, Button said, “In a strange way I'm not disappointed. I'm no longer the reigning World Champion but I'm still a World Champion and I hope to be fighting for the title next season. All in all this has
been a pretty good year - I've won a couple of races and been on the podium quite a few times and I've had some fun races. This is all practice for next year".
Currently, the British driver stands at 5th place in the Drivers’ Championship with his 199 points. He gained the first victory of the year at the Australian Grand Prix at the start of the 2010 season while later he was successful in getting his
second race win at the Chinese round.
Moreover, he has been able to finish three of the races, the Turkish, the Canadian and the Italian Grands Prix, at second place while in Great Briton, Singapore and Japan he was successful in standing at the third place on the podium.
Although, his title hopes almost vanished after the pointless finish in Korea, he was only able to manage 12th place, yet the determined driver as well as his team tried to regain the lost chances at the Brazilian Grand Prix, but all in vain.
However, Button exclaimed that he is still happy for a great year with his new team and believes that the next one would be even better for him.
