Jenson Button determined to get back into the game
Jenson Button is more resolute than before to get back on track for the pursuit of the drivers’ title after a disappointing end to the race as Sebastian Vettel caused Jenson’s retirement at Spa-Francorchamps.
Button was going through a good race as he was in second place behind teammate Lewis Hamilton, ably holding the Red Bulls back, before Sebastian crashed into Jenson. Vettel made a horrible move, lost control, and struck to the side of the McLaren on lap 16. Sebastian’s car barely survived the incident and was able to continue the race.
“Obviously, my non-finish in Spa wasn't ideal for my championship aspirations, so I head to Monza next weekend determined to put myself back in the hunt for the title. We still have some work to do to make sure the package we bring to Italy is perfectly suited to the track, but I'm confident that our engineers have made some good steps forward with their understanding of our car, so we should be in good shape”, said Button.
Jenson Button joined team Williams in 2000 and started racing in the Formula 1 as their full time driver. Jenson has been in Formula 1 for the last 10 years after a roller coaster career. The British was able to impress the teams after scoring 12 points to secure the 8th place in the drivers’ standings in his debut career.
Button joined Benetton after his contract with Williams expired in 2001 but struggled with the team. Benetton became team Renault the following year and enabled the 30-year-old to score some good results as he finished 7th with 14 points in the drivers’ standings.
The world champion joined BAR in 2003 for 3 years and made his mark with the team. Jenson struggled in the first season before stunning everyone with an outstanding performance in 2004 as he secured the 3rd place with 85 points in the drivers’ championship with the help of 10 podiums and a pole position.
Jenson was not able to perform up to the mark in his last season with BAR as he scored 37 points to secure the 9th place. However, the driver managed to impress team Honda with his performance and joined them in 2006. His first season with the team was quite important for him as he was able to score his first win and 3 podiums to secure the 6th place with 56 points.
However, the following two seasons were the worst of his entire career as he was not able to score a single podium finish by ending with 15th and 18th place. The 33-year-old joined a new team by the name of Brawn GP which was headed by Ross Brawn after leaving Honda and this was the best decision of his career.
Jenson won the championship in the teams’ debut season with 95 points with the help of 6 wins, 9 podiums and 4 pole positions - helping him secure the constructors’ title as well. Button left the team to join McLaren for 2010 hoping that the team will lead him to another title win. The current World Champion is in 4th place this season, 35 points behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton who is currently leading the championship. The British hopes to get back in the game with a belief that he can win the title once again since there are six races remaining.
Keeping in mind that Button has never won the Italian Grand Prix, Jenson enjoys driving at the circuit and promises to provide plenty of excitement. The world champion hopes to score some decent points to stay in the title chase and preferably win it.
“I love racing at Monza - it's a totally unique experience; running minimal downforce at incredible speeds along the straights, and then coping with the lack of grip, and an extremely skittish car, through the low-speed stuff. Given the competitiveness at the front of the field, this could be an intense, thrilling grand prix”, he added.
