Jenson Button expects their winning streak to continue at Marina Bay Circuit – Formula 1 news
Jenson Button of McLaren looks forward towards the upcoming Singaporean Grand Prix forgetting his retirement from the last race at the Monza circuit.
He is encouraged with their impressive pace and anticipates continuing their winning streak at the upcoming weekend.
The British driver was unable to finish the Italian Grand Prix due to a problem with his fuel system. He told that he is not focusing on the mishap rather he wants to add to the championship points of McLaren along with his teammate Lewis Hamilton however
he believes that such mishaps are a part of everyday affairs.
Button said, “I didn’t spend too much time looking back at my non-finish in Monza. Obviously, it was disappointing not to be able to help the team to a one-two finish, but these things happen.”
Talking about the Marina Bay circuit he told that the corners are crossed in second or third gear therefore the cars have to be set-up accordingly.
“There are a couple of long straights, so it’s very fast, but all the corners are generally taken in second or third gear, so you’re trying to find the best set-up compromise - particularly as you need good end-of-straight speed for overtaking into Turn
Seven. That’s the best opportunity for passing as it also comes at the end of the DRS zone,” he said.
The British driver said that every lap is challenging and it was interesting last year as he and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing had a close competition. He hopes that even this year they will be able to fight for the top positions. Last year, he finished
the Singaporean GP at 2nd position.
Button holds 6th position in the championship with 101 points. He has won 2 races in the current season and attained 4 podiums until now. In the Italian GP, where he retired due to issues with his fuel system he had attained 2nd grid position.
McLaren has been able to win the last three races, reducing the championship lead of Red Bull by 83 points. They are just 29 points behind the championship leaders, Red Bull.
Let’s see how the British team performs at the upcoming Singaporean Grand Prix.
