Jenson Button feels contended with the pace of MP4-27 at 2012 Australian GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button says that the new car MP4-27 is ‘still working well’ at 2012 Australian Grand Prix held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia this weekend after he set the fastest lap time during the first free practice session on Friday.
Moreover, regardless of the limited test run on the last day of the final pre-season test held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, the British driver was pleased with the performance of the new car.
Due to rain, the conditions were mixed during the practice session which made it quite impossible for the teams to understand where they stand in the forthcoming championship. Furthermore, Button said that he experienced variation in the reactions to the
differing circumstances while being in the car however he stated that the car was still capable enough to fight for the title.
“Even though it doesn't mean too much,” Button said. “Our car feels very different compared with the last test - the circuit is different and the average corner speed is a lot lower, but the car is still working well for me.”
Apart from being optimistic about the performance of the car, Button admitted that there was still some room for the improvement. He also said that they were not been able to get the desired number of laps during the practice sessions. Nevertheless, he said
that the day went positive for the team.
In addition, he said that they did some set-up working during the Friday morning while in the afternoon session they made efforts to understand how the car responded to the wet track on intermediate tyres. Moreover, he said that every team had to face some
difficulties due to the weather conditions during both the practice sessions. Nonetheless, he expressed that his team was quite delighted at the end.
“There are still a few areas where I think we can improve, and we didn't get as many laps in today as we'd have liked, but it's been a positive day. We did some set-up work this morning and then spent the afternoon understanding how the car reacts when running
wet or intermediate tyres. The weather didn't help, but it's been the same for everyone,” said Button.
