Jenson Button feels nobody as consistent as Sebastian Vettel – Formula 1 Update
McLaren’s driver, Jenson Button, has expressed his feelings about the 2011 Formula 1 season. The Brit stated that no driver is consistent except Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull and that is why the German has a huge lead of 24 points in just two races.
Talking about the season, Button commented that 17, maybe 18 races are due and Vettel’s run will not remain the same all along.
Button is the second driver on the table with 26 points and Vettel leads the way with the maximum of 50 points, after two straight wins in the opening two races of the 2011 season. “At this moment in time, yes, Sebastian's the person to beat. He's won two
races out of two and nobody else has been consistent,” said the Brit. He added that Vettel certainly has the pace but McLaren is catching up fast and over a course of the season, things will change.
McLaren’s duo of Lewis Hamilton and Button, have been able to get behind the roaring Red Bull, both in the qualifiers and the race. Somehow, Vettel is getting some lucky breaks and winning the races. In the Australian Grand Prix, Hamilton gave up as he was
behind Vettel after the floor in his car was damaged. In the Malaysian Grand Prix, Hamilton had a crash with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and was down to eighth position, thereby releasing the pressure off Vettel.
Button commented that McLaren are closing the gap in terms of speed. “Of course, the Red Bulls' pace is very good. I think, in terms of pace we, the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team, are the second best,” added the Brit. He went on to say that a few more upgrades
will be seen for the Chinese Grand Prix from the McLaren team.
Red Bull is leading the constructors table as well with 72 points because both drivers, Vettel and Mark Webber have managed to be in the top five positions in both races. McLaren’s first target, come China, will be to get in the top qualifying positions
from the Red Bull team and then build up some momentum on race day.
The next race is scheduled for 17 April in China.
