Jenson Button feels pleased after Friday practice of 2012 Italian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he is feeling very much pleased with his running during the free Friday practice of the 2012 Italian Grand Prix as he successfully collected some valuable data regarding the car’s updates.
Button set the second best time in both the Friday practice sessions and said that the dry weather conditions really helped him in gathering the essential data. Moreover, he said that Monza circuit is very different as compared to the other tracks as the
speed in its straight-lines is unbelievably high.
“Monza is so different from anywhere else we drive,” he said. “The straightline speeds are incredibly high in fact there are four points around track where we hit 200mph. It's been satisfying to get some dry running under our belts today, because we were
able to gather a lot of useful information.”
In addition, he said that they tried some different setups during the second session but couldn’t decide the most appropriate one. Therefore, he insisted that they are looking forward to the third practice session so as to find out the best setup for the
race day. Nevertheless, he said that they have made some sound progress while he admired the work of his team.
“We tried a few different directions with set-up this afternoon and some were better than others but we'll decide what works best before FP3 and we'll make necessary tweaks to get balance right. I'm pretty comfortable; you always want more, but we've done
reasonably good job today,” he added.
Besides, he said that the race ahead is going to be very competitive as all the contenders seem to be strong which can be witnessed after the first two practice sessions.
He also said that the qualifying performance of the teams will certainly play an important role as the drivers who will secure higher grid slots will enjoy a competitive edge. However, he said that it is very difficult to predict about the upcoming race
as the season until now has been extremely surprising.
It will be thrilling to see how the 2009 world champion performs at Autodromo di Monza with lower-downforce configuration.
