Jenson Button has complete faith in McLaren’s updates – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has complete faith in his team’s updates for 2012 German Grand Prix and is aiming to reduce the gap to the contenders in the front.
Button took an inspiring victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and secured an amazing second podium finish in the Chinese GP at Shanghai International Circuit. However, he has been struggling with his car’s setup and the tyre management issue in the last six grands prix in which he could only score 7 points.
In addition, he said that all the contenders have been making the essential step ups in their cars and he is expecting a strong fight in the season ahead.
Nonetheless, he said that they have been looking forward to come up with some essential upgrades in their car so as to improve its pace in the forthcoming race.
“We haven't got slower,” Button said, “it's just that other people have found themselves or made good improvements. The first few races of the year I didn't feel like teams like Lotus had it sorted and had it together, but now they're looking very strong - the same as a few of the teams. But you'd have to say Ferrari and Red Bull have really stepped forward compared to everyone else and I think that's just big updates. For us we haven't had a big enough update to really be in the mix, but here we should get that update.”
Besides, he expressed that the Scarlet team has got the potential to fight for this year’s championship title and their driver, Fernando Alonso has performed amazingly well in the season so far.
Currently, he is standing at eighth place in the drivers’ championship with 50 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Sergio Perez of Sauber-Ferrari and behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
Over and above, he said that he is focussing to gather some necessary data regarding the upgrade package of his car in the free Friday practice to make the necessary evaluations.
Let’s see how the Briton comes up in the upcoming race at Hockenheimring on July 22.
