Jenson Button hopes McLaren can improve in the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1
Jenson Button said that he hopes that McLaren will come up with updates which will allow him to maintain an advantage in the coming Chinese Grand Prix.
Button won the opening race of the season at the Australian Grand Prix but then failed to maintain his success in Malaysia.
The Brit though has not looked disappointed or angry at the result and hope to fight back but coming up with a dominant performance in China.
Button will be relieved from the fact that McLaren has the quickest car of the season, while Red Bull are in a close second.
Ferrari won the Malaysian Grand Prix with some brilliant driving from the Spaniard Fernando Alonso but are still not considered to be in contention for the title as Ferrari’s woes with the new F2012 are clearly hampering the team. The weather played its
role in Malaysia and Alonso used his skill to win the race but their car lacks the pace to maintain competitiveness at the moment.
Button said that as a driver one always looks to improve and cannot stay at the same level for long but the question is whether one’s improvement enough to remain competitive or not. McLaren does have some good upgrades and tweaks it is nothing major but
it may prove to be the difference between the winners and the rest.
Button feels that there is still room for McLaren to improve on its performance while also pointing out that understanding the nature of the tyres is also important.
“With the restrictions that we have with the regulations in terms of the blown diffuser and a lot of other areas on the car it's very difficult to find big chunks of time - especially when you're leading the pack. It's a lot easier for people to copy what
you have on the car, but I hope that we have enough and we've done enough. This weekend's going to be important to really get an understanding of the tyres around here and it's going to be tough to find the right balance, but that's what we're here to do,”
said Button.
The next race is schedule for April 15, 2012.
