Jenson Button hopes to strike back in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1
McLaren driver Jenson Button has only been able to score 2 points in the last three races. However, the hopes are high for the talented driver that he will strike back in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal
on June 10.
Button took an amazing victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after he qualified for second grid position and became the first race winner in this season.
The 2009 world champion is currently standing at 7th place between the Lotus pair of drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean, in the drivers’ championship with 45 points. Moreover, he is 6 points behind Raikkonen and 10 points ahead of Grosjean.
After winning the first race, he struggled in the second GP as he could not be able to score even a single point even after qualifying for the second grid position.
Nonetheless, he secured an amazing second podium finish in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China after setting off from fifth place in the grid.
In the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, he performed quite convincingly during the qualifying and secured 4th grid position but he struggled during the race and came 18th.
Furthermore, in the fifth race at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, he began from 10th place in the grid and secured 9th position in the race. Afterwards, in the sixth race at Circuit de Monaco, he again faced difficulties during the qualifying and the
race as he came 16th without scoring any point after starting the race from 12th grid position.
On the other hand, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton has emerged as one of the most consistent drivers in the season so far as he secured third podium finish in the first three races out of which he claimed the pole position in the first two grands prix.
However, he also faced difficulties with the poor pit stop strategy in fourth and sixth race due to which he could only secure 8th place finish even after qualifying for second and third grid position.
Nonetheless, despite the ongoing issues which have been faced by McLaren, the team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has said that their drivers are capable enough of winning the world championship.
In addition, he said that it is almost impossible to make any kind of projections for the approaching races as there have been six different winners in the first six races of the season.
“You're never satisfied,” Whitmarsh said. “But I think Lewis is scoring points in every race, he's keeping his head and I think he's doing a very good job. It's still anyone's to play for, so we and Lewis and Jenson can win this year's championship. So after
six races I think that's good for the sport. People now say this sort of randomness is unattractive then that's just a 180 to what people felt a few years ago when it was very predictable.”
Besides, Button also expressed that he is not feeling disappointed and is positively looking forward to perform well in the approaching races.
The Woking-based team is presently at second place with 38 points behind the defending champions, Red Bull Racing who are leading the constructors’ championship. Above and beyond, they are aiming to make the best of the efforts to improve their performance
in the forthcoming races so as to win the 2012 F1 championship title.
