Jenson Button hopes to sustain competitiveness at 2012 Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button hopes to sustain the competitiveness at Chinese Grand Prix which is going to be held at Shanghai International Circuit on April 15, 2012.
McLaren team is currently leading the constructors’ championship with its pair of drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.
Button took an impressive victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. However, he could not be able to score even a single point in the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
On the other hand, his teammate, Hamilton has been seen quite consistent with his performance in the season so far as he has secured third podium finish and pole positions in both the races.
Furthermore, Button said that they are going to come up with some updates at Shanghai in order to maintain their position.
“You're always looking to improve and you can't stand still, but whether it's enough to really stay ahead of everyone I don't know - it's difficult,” Button said. “There are some good improvements but it's not a massive amount in terms of lap time, but I
don't think anyone's going to find a massive amount.”
In addition, he said that they need to create a better understanding about the tyres in order to improve their performance in the races ahead.
“This weekend's going to be important to really get an understanding of the tyres around here and it's going to be tough to find the right balance, but that's what we're here to do,” said Button.
Besides, he said that it is very hard to increase the pace of the car with strict rules and regulations of FIA regarding the blown diffuser. Nonetheless, he said that they have tried their best to enhance the speed of the car in the race ahead and are hopeful
to achieve good results.
It will be important to mention that the team principal of McLaren, Martin Whitmarsh said that he is feeling quite confident for the Chinese GP. He also said that they have won 3 out of 4 last races held at China and hope to do well in this season too.
