Jenson Button hoping for same pace as McLaren had in Monaco – Formula 1 news
The 2009 Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button has recently stated ahead of the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix that he is hoping for the same pace McLaren had during the Monaco Grand Prix.
“The MP4-26 was very competitive in Monaco a couple of months ago and I hope it will be a similar situation this weekend because the Hungaroring has many of the same performance criteria,” he said.
Button failed to finish the German Grand Prix this past weekend as a result of which he is more than 100 points short of the championship leader Sebastian Vettel.
The McLaren driver admitted that his chances of challenging for the 2011 drivers’ championship are quite low because of which it is believed that he might support his teammate Lewis Hamilton who recently won his second race of the season at the Nurburgring
circuit.
Nevertheless, the 2009 Formula 1 world champion is going to make his 200th race start at the Hungaroring this coming weekend and he wants to make that race as special as he can.
“The hot weather conditions make this one of the most gruelling races of the year for the drivers. Cockpit temperatures regularly exceed 50 degrees and we're always pulling g-force in the car because there are so many corners. It's tough, but this is definitely
a circuit when all the training pays dividends,” said Button.
Button claims that his driving skills have not been affected much since he started racing in the Formula 1 and stated that he still aims for the best results at each race. The 2011 Formula 1 season has not been McLaren and Ferrari’s year though in terms
of pace as neither of them has secured a single pole position.
Red Bull Racing on the other hand have a perfect pole position scoring record and one has to admit that it is the main reason for their success this year. The RB7 is not faster than its rivals during the race but it is reliable enough to hold back McLaren
or Ferrari.
