Jenson Button hoping to apply some added pressure on Red Bull Racing – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button has recently stated that he is hoping to apply some added pressure on his team’s rivals Red Bull Racing at the upcoming Belgian Grand Prix in order to take the advantage.
“It felt great to go into the summer break off the back of the win in Hungary. That was a race I think we could just as well have won in the dry as in the damp - which will be worth bearing in mind in Spa, as it'll probably be wet and dry - and everything in between - at some point during the weekend,” he said.
Button is quite short of the championship leader Sebastian Vettel in the drivers’ standings and it seems that his chances of winning the title this year are quite low. Since his teammate Lewis Hamilton is much closer in terms of points, the team might give him a little more preference in order to secure at least one of the titles this year and it is quite understandable that Button might even have to help him in doing so.
Nevertheless, the 2009 Formula 1 world champion secured the win at the Hungarian Grand Prix and he has proved that he still has the capability of challenging the top running drivers consistently despite the fact that he went through a rough patch during mid-season races.
Other than that, Button claims that the Drag Reduction System is not going to be as vital as expected at the Spa-Francorchamps.
“I'm still not certain where it will be deployed, but there's always been lots of opportunities to use the slipstream up the hill out of Eau Rouge to pass into Les Combes. It'll be interesting to see whether DRS can add even more to the show - it should hopefully be another great weekend for Formula 1,” he added.
The Belgian Grand Prix is going to be very competitive for the top running teams as it is more like a ‘do or die’ for Ferrari and McLaren especially.
