Jenson Button hoping to increase the pressure on Red Bull Racing team – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he is hoping to increase the pressure on his team’s closest rivals Red Bull Racing team who are currently dominating the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“We can't stand still, we have to move forward. This team will never give up, I know that, and I have every faith they will bring some good improvements to Barcelona,” said Button.
McLaren have been the only team that has been challenging Red Bull Racing team for victories as Ferrari and Mercedes GP have not been able to perform up to their expectations so far in their 2011 run.
Lewis Hamilton secured the team’s first victory of the season at the Chinese Grand Prix and proved that McLaren have the ability to defeat Red Bull. However, Sebastian Vettel is still unbeaten in qualifying as he has a perfect score of 4 pole positions in
4 races.
The main concern for McLaren at the moment is qualifying and Jenson Button is hoping to avoid mistakes at the upcoming races and score better results for his team in order to secure maximum points.
“Definitely the Red Bulls are quick and they have a lot of points on the board, but it can all turn around very quickly as soon as you put them under pressure. So we have to make sure that sooner rather than later we start doing that,” he said.
McLaren were unable to score good results during the pre-season testing period and according to the results of those sessions, the team was around 2 seconds off the pace of Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes back then.
However, the team improved its car at the last minute and scored better results than Ferrari and Mercedes GP surprisingly.
“We were in a bad place before the year started, but you have to forget about what happened in the winter and start with what happened at the first race and move from there,” Button admitted.
Nevertheless, he added that the team is hoping to improve its performance and score much better results at the upcoming races in order to try its best to take the advantage and decrease its deficit.
Lewis Hamilton challenged for the drivers’ title until the very last race of the 2010 Formula 1 season alongside Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber but unfortunately since he was more than 20 points adrift of the championship leader Alonso
back then, he was unable to score the title.
As a result, Vettel took the advantage and snatched the drivers’ standing’s lead from the two-time Formula 1 world champion in order to take the 2010 Formula 1 championship.
