Jenson Button insists he is not leaving McLaren – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he is not looking forward to leave his team despite facing immense problems in the 2013 Formula 1 season so far.
Button has not been able to score competitive points with consistency in the season so far because he has faced some huge technical and tyre management issues. However, he has expressed full faith in his home team and stated that he will remain there until
or unless they keep on finishing at fourth or fifth place in the constructors’ championship.
“If this was a team that was consistently finishing fourth or fifth in championship then of course I would look elsewhere,” said Button. “In that case, I would look to one of the front running teams to step up to, somewhere that could give me a race-winning
car.”
It will be important to mention that Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing is going to retire from the sport at the end of this season and the Milton Keynes based squad is currently searching for a potential candidate to drive alongside Sebastian Vettel. Although,
Kimi Raikkonen’s name is at the top of the list, Button has also been rumoured as a potential option for the vacancy at Red Bull.
However, the British driver has said that he is not looking for a race seat at Red Bull and will stay at the Woking based team until they perform well.
“But this isn't a team that is finishing four of fifth in the constructors'. This is a bad year and in years to come this team will be fighting for world championships. I am not looking around like some people might think,” he stated in response to claims
that he is targeting to join Red Bull as Webber's replacement.
Presently, the 2009 world champion is standing at 10th place in the drivers’ championship with 33 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Adrian Sutil of Force India and behind his main rival, Paul di Resta.
It will be interesting to see how he performs in the Hungarian GP which is to be held at Hungaroring on July 28, 2013.
