Jenson Button is not satisfied with his pit stop strategy at the Marina Bay Circuit – Formula 1 news
Jenson Button of McLaren is not satisfied with his pit stop strategy despite having an improved speed with the new tyres.
The British rider believes that the early pit stop of the Red Bull Driver, Sebastian Vettel gave him an added advantage in winning the Singapore Grand Prix.
He told that the pace with the super soft compounds was impressive but he was not fully benefitted from them because the race winner, Vettel, had set a gap for him by taking a pit stop earlier. The British driver was not satisfied with his tyre management
of soft compounds.
Button said, “The pace on the supersoft was good, I could look after the tyres pretty well; not that it did me any good anyway because after the pit stops they had a gap because they went to new tyres earlier than me so it didn't really work out.”
The McLaren driver told that Vettel did not make any mistake over the circuit. He anticipated that the Red Bull driver may make some mistakes if pushed harder and they may be able to take the lead but he did not.
“You never know around a street circuit when you push someone hard so there was always the possibility that we could do one step better but it wasn't to be. Sebastian didn't make any mistakes,” he added.
He is satisfied with his second place on the podium because it is better than his results at the Monza circuit. The McLaren driver added that he is happy for himself that he was able to make it on the Marina Bay Street Circuit but he is disappointed for
his team because Singapore GP was a failure. The other driver of McLaren, Lewis Hamilton retired due a gearbox failure, from a leading position in the race.
Furthermore, he said that he is satisfied with the performance of the team because they have a very good car which provides them with a chance of winning every race they start.
Let’s see how team McLaren performs in the remainder of the season. They are currently the runner up in the Constructors Championship. Will they be able to take the lead from Red Bull Racing or not.
