Jenson Button looks to Monaco GP as a chance to make amends for 2011 – Formula 1 news
Jenson Button says he is looking forward to the Monaco challenge as he has a bit of an unfinished business with the track following last year’s Grand Prix.
Button was in for a competitive race with Sebastian Vettel for the victory but a three-stop strategy dropped him behind Vettel and Fernando Alonso. Yet the race was riveting as the three drivers ran neck to neck to battle out for the last 18 laps of the
race as the fast degrading Pirelli tyres only made the race more exciting.
Button said that the 2011 race will act as a motivation for him to do really well. “I remember last year having a fantastic car beneath me and feeling really confident that I could challenge for the win,” Button said. “As it happened, circumstances beyond
our control worked to pull that opportunity away from us, but I go back to Monte-Carlo with a little bit of unfinished business. I'd love to win for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, the team has a great history around Monaco and I'd love to add my name to McLaren's
Monaco winners' list.”
Team principal Martin Whitmarsh added that the team is looking to learn from the mistakes they have made in the season and bounce back in the coming race. He said that the team will travel to the south of France feeling confident and determined to come up
with a faultless weekend and show the teams true potential. He also said that he is expecting a win from the team at Monaco.
McLaren have looked to be a strong team if not the strongest so far in the season. The team started with a win at the opening race of the season in Australia. Then went on to show strong performances both Button and Hamilton are world class drivers and with
new updates to the McLaren car it will be difficult to beat them in the season.
Other teams who are looking good in the season are Ferrari, Red Bull and Lotus. The season has been the most competitive in many years and it is predicted that it will go to the wire and no real favourite will be determined until the final race of the season.
