Jenson Button makes Qualifying improvement reaching 2011 target in Abu Dhabi
In an interview with his team's official website, McLaren's Jenson Button, who came in fifth in the overall drivers' standings, admitted that his qualifying form needs some polishing, and that it affected
his results over the course of the year.
But Button also said that he has many good experiences to take with him, and he felt good about his first season on the McLaren team. Having had some excellent race results, and having developed a friendship
with team-mate Lewis Hamilton, Button is determined to improve his performance in 2011.
“We've got a year's worth of experience under our belts, we've pushed hard all season, and I think we can take that all away and learn from it over the winter,” he said.
Button told the website that although he lost his number one spot he was very happy with his season. The racer also said that he felt at ease in the new car, and that the experience left him optimistic
for the 2011 season.
“It would have been nice to have bowed out with another victory, but the result was good for the team in general,” said Button.
Some of Button's best moments included wins in Australia and China during the first part of the season, with strong races in Turkey and Canada, and as a near win at Monza.
He congratulated his engineers, and mechanics, who he said preformed well.
“I do feel part of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes family now. And, like I say, to end the season with two drivers in the top three is very encouraging,” he said, referring to the team's performance in Abu
Dhabi, where Hamilton and Button finished second and third, respectively.
The goal for next year, he said, would be simply to improve and build on the form and chemistry he’s shown with Hamilton thus far this year. McLaren put in a strong performance, but ultimately lost the constructors
race to Red Bull.
