Jenson Button must get ready to lead McLaren in 2013 – Formula 1
McLaren driver Jenson Button will have more responsibility in the 2013 Formula 1 season as he will be driving alongside Sergio Perez who has not much experience in the sport.
Button’s teammate, Lewis Hamilton is going to leave McLaren at the end of this year and has planned to join Mercedes in the next season where he will replace Michael Schumacher who has taken retirement from F1. Moreover, Hamilton will be driving alongside
Nico Rosberg who has been his friend right from the days of their karting.
On the other hand, the Woking based team has signed a new multi-year agreement with Sergio Perez who will be replacing the 2008 world champion from the next season onwards.
Perez has been considered as one of the most competent young drivers in the sport as he performed tremendously well with Sauber in this year’s championship. He secured three podium finishes and delivered some remarkable performances with which he impressed
everyone.
The Mexican driver successfully secured a race seat at McLaren for the next year, but after his contract with the British squad, he failed to attain promising results for his team. Because of struggling in the last few races, he faced a lot of criticism
and eventually many speculations arose which stated that McLaren have made a hasty decision regarding their next year’s driver line-up.
Nevertheless, the team principal, Martin Whitmarsh has expressed that they have full confidence on their decision and are positively looking forward to perform well with their changed line-up in the next season.
In addition, Whitmarsh said that they will prepare the 22-year-old before the start of the coming season so that he may perform well for his new team. Besides, he emphasised that Perez should be well aware of the fact that he is going to join one of the
top teams and should be ready to work harder.
Meanwhile, the 2009 world champion said that he is very much satisfied with his team’s decision regarding the next year’s driver line-up. Additionally, he said that Perez has surely got some amazing talent and they can train him well before the start of
the next season.
Furthermore, he said that he is eagerly looking forward to take the role of the lead driver in his team for the coming year and will surely help his squad in making the essential developments in the car in order to attain better results.
“I really enjoy, being the lead driver and being the guy who can really help the team improve the car and sort of mould the car around me,” Button told ITN. “So I'm really looking forward to 2013 because of that; I've got a couple of months to really mould
the team and the car around me at the factory. The good thing about McLaren is that they really listen to what a driver has to say - we're an important part of the puzzle - it's not just driving the car it's developing the car and that really means a lot to
me.”
Besides, he said that they need to resolve the technical and tyre management issues which they faced during this season so as to come up stronger in the next year.
The competition is going to be tougher in the coming season and the 32-year-old must get ready to lead his team with his new teammate.
