Jenson Button not happy with car setup during qualifying session of British Grand Prix – Formula 1
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said after the qualifying session of the British Grand Prix that he is not happy with the setup of the car and that he was unable to make the best of the balance of his MP4-26.
“Today was a bit of a topsy-turvy day. The balance of our car wasn't great, and it's always difficult when you find out at the last minute what you're running: it isn't a matter of a mere flick of a switch to change things,” said Button.
Button qualified in 5th place quite luckily but throughout the qualifying session, he struggled to find pace and even after the Q2 session, the former world champion made it to Q3 in the very last second.
He was in fact quite fortunate during the Q3 session as he scored a flying lap at least with his soft tyres. Due to the weather conditions later on in the session, his teammate Lewis Hamilton and the rest of the pack behind him were unable to score a flying
lap during the closing stages of the session.
However, Red Bull Racing are going to start from row 1 with Mark Webber on pole position alongside Sebastian Vettel while Ferrari are going to start from row 2 with Fernando Alonso in 3rd place followed by his teammate Felipe Massa.
“For some teams, the tightening of the regulations helped; but it hurt others. So I guess fifth place feels just about okay after what we've been through in the past few days. Hopefully, we can still take the fight to the guys in front at our home grand
prix, and give the famous Silverstone crowd something to shout about,” he said.
The British Grand Prix is going to be pretty unpredictable but it seems that McLaren’s only chance during the race is the start. If both of the drivers get a good start then their race will be quite stable and promising. Otherwise, they will have to hope
for others to make mistakes. Let’s see how the race turns out to be.
