Jenson Button not ready to support Lewis Hamilton in title chase – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that he is aiming to make his mark stronger in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship and is not ready to support his teammate, Lewis Hamilton in the title chase.
After claiming victory in the Belgian GP, Button’s own title hopes became stronger. However, the chances of his victory in this year’s championship have almost vanished after Hamilton scored his third win of the current season in the Italian GP at Autodromo
di Monza and came second in the drivers’ standings behind Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Although, the 2009 world champion is 78 points behind the current leader in the drivers’ championship, Alonso, nevertheless, he is still targeting to claim the title and is aiming to win all the remaining races.
“I am sure I will [be asked] but it is a waste of time because the answers are going to be very short,” Button is quoted in The Times. “It is going to be very difficult, but nothing is going to change. I am still going to race hard and try to win every race
from here on in.”
On the other hand, the 2008 world champion said that they have made some essential step ups in the car during this ongoing season due to which their performance has been tremendous in the last couple of races.
Moreover, he said that they have got the car which is competent enough of winning the championship title while he said that they are getting close to it as the season is progressing.
“We have obviously had a certain package at the last two races that has been very strong,” said Hamilton.
In addition, he said that the competition is very tight and all the drivers in the top five or six positions have a strong chance of winning the championship.
“It's incredible. Kimi got ten points in Italy and I still consider everyone in the top five or six a major title threat,” he said.
Above and beyond, it will be very exciting to see how the Woking based team performs in the remaining seven grands prix of this season.
