Jenson Button not worried about missing the in-season test at Mugello circuit – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has expressed that he is not worried about not taking part in the in-season test which is to be held at Mugello circuit, next week.
The Woking-based team has planned to run the car at Mugello with the test drivers Gary Paffett and Oliver Turvey.
On the other hand, Button’s teammate Lewis Hamilton said that he will drive the car on one of the three days of the test so as to solve the issues he faced on track during 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix.
“We need to figure out why the tyres are going off. If there are other things to test or ways to figure out I will be the one to do it, not let someone else do it,” said Hamilton.
However, Button said that the test is not too important as they are not going to come up with major updates in the test which will need evaluation.
“The reason why we're not there is because we've never been to Mugello before,” he said. “I don't really think we will be a benefit because there aren't any massive updates to try.”
He also said that his presence in the test is not necessary but for the test drivers, it will be good that they run some miles at Mugello.
“For the test drivers to put some miles on parts and try some very extreme things, then I think it's good, but it's not necessary for us to be there,” said Button.
He is currently standing at fourth place in the drivers’ championship with 43 points ahead of the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Besides, he took an amazing victory at season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia after he started the race from second grid position. Conversely, in the second race at Sepang International Circuit he came 14th due to his collision with Narain
Karthikeyan of HRT.
Even though, he managed to secure second podium finish in the third race at Shanghai International Circuit in China. However, he again finished the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir with no points in pocket.
Nonetheless, he is targeting to perform well in the season ahead to fight for the championship title.
