Jenson Button on cloud nine after podium finish at the inaugural Indian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
McLaren-Mercedes driver Jenson Button is extremely delighted over his second-place finish at the recently held 2011 Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit.
Button told the media “We all want to beat our team-mate” suggesting how competitive and focused he is.
Button’s teammate Lewis Hamilton went straight to the airport after the race while he faced the media calmly, and even joked around with them.
The Brit mentioned how he has been working hard on his driving and that he is actually feeling good about the way he is driving. He added that he is enjoying his recent dominance over his teammate Hamilton.
He joined McLaren in early 2010 and it was speculated that Hamilton’s talent will overshadow Button. However, as Button has improved over the year and has shown his on and off track performance, Hamilton has been losing his way.
At the press conference, the reporters soon delved into the topic of Hamilton, and he was asked about what needs to be looked into for Hamilton to overcome his recent problems.
Button fired back and said, “I don’t give a F***.” Though his reaction was not out of anger, it seemed more like out of frustration.
He further explained that because both the drivers of the same team have the same equipment, all the drivers take it as a challenge to beat their teammate.
McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh also admitted that Hamilton’s loss of form will not be helped by Button’s resurgence. He also said that as a driver, one focuses on beating his teammate first.
He further added that although Lewis is an exciting and talented driver but he is not going to take it lightly if he is beaten by anyone, let alone by his own teammate.
The season still has two more races to go. Hamilton has already said that he is looking to keep his focus on only racing. Let’s see how he fares in the last two events of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
