Jenson Button positive about the new Pirelli tyres for 2013 F1 season – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver, Jenson Button, has expressed positive comments about the new Pirelli tyres being introduced during the 2013 F1 season.
“I liked it, actually,” Button told Autosport after trying the new tyres in Brazil. “It was very hot in Brazil so it's difficult to be sure, but the idea is that it generates heat a lot quicker and you don't struggle with warm-up, which a lot of teams did
in 2012. That is good. The grip is different. We were told that it had a certain style of grip but it doesn't quite feel that way, it feels a bit different. It feels like it's going to be a good tyre.”
He also added that the there is going to be a lot of tyre degradation; especially in the second half of the season which is going to be more like the beginning of the 2012 F1 season.
Pirelli had also introduced new tyres during the 2012 F1 season. The beginning witnessed all the F1 teams struggling to adjust with them and was full of unpredictable results. There were seven different winners to the first seven races of the season.
Like Button, McLaren’s sporting director, Sam Michael, is also positive about these new tyres saying that the teams have better understanding now and that it is good when the races become unpredictable. He had insisted that there was nothing unfair about
it and it was all about which team manages them better. He had expressed his hope that Pirelli will not become too conservative with the new tyre selection.
Mercedes team principal, Ross Brawn, has also stated that the top F1 teams are now expert enough to adjust with the new tyres. However, he insisted that the risk with the new tyres might be reduced but not completely eliminated.
Pirelli had announced that they will be bringing new tyres in 2013 which will be different in terms of both construction and compounds. To help the teams get some idea about them, they had provided the teams with the prototypes during the practice session
ahead of the season ending Brazilian Grand Prix. Pirelli’s motorsports director, Paul Hembery, has revealed that the new tyres will change the aerodynamics of the cars.
