Jenson Button praises Michael Schumacher for staying in Formula 1 for so long – Formula 1 news
The 2009 Formula 1 champion Jenson Button praised the seven-time former world champion Michael Schumacher for giving Formula 1 20 ‘amazing’ years and admitted that he could not match Schumacher’s peak performance himself either.
Other than that, he claims that he might not be able to stay in Formula 1 in his 40’s but he might also complete his 20th anniversary in Formula 1 as he is currently going through his 12th year
in the sport.
“This is my 12th year in the sport. But 20 years...to be at the top of his game for that long is very impressive. For a driver, with the stresses and pressures that are on you, 20 years is a long time in the sport for anyone. Looking at it I'm only eight
years behind. I can't see myself racing when I'm in my 40s, but there is always a possibility,” he told the media.
Other than that, McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton also stated that this 20th anniversary is a huge achievement.
“It is a great achievement for Michael. I think it is quite cool he is still here, so good on him,” said the 2008 Formula 1 world champion.
Schumacher has almost all the major records of the sport including most race wins and most championships. He became a part of Formula 1 back in 1991 as he drove for Jordan at the Spa-Francorchamps as his debut race.
Back then, no one would have thought that the German driver would even break all the records set by Ayrton Senna and prove that he is truly the best driver Formula 1 has ever witnessed statistically.
He is currently 42 years old and he claims that he does not want to stop racing anytime soon as he is on a contract with Mercedes GP at least until the end of 2012.
Despite the fact that he has not been able to score a single podium since his return to the sport, he is hoping for the best possible results in the future and is still as devoted as he has ever been.
