Jenson Button praises history and layout of Silverstone – Formula 1 news
Jenson Button has rated the Silverstone circuit as one of the very best in Formula 1 because of its unique layout.
Other than praising the design of the track, Button praised its history. He said, “It's also a track with such great historical significance – it's where the first-ever world championship F1 race was held, and it's really cool to look at pictures throughout
the sport's history and to be able to recognise Silverstone in pictures featuring such icons as Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell.”
The 2009 champion went onto appreciate the local fans by saying, “It's the people who make Silverstone what it is – they are there every day, in all weathers, cheering on every driver on every lap. That level of support is something you see nowhere else
– British fans have a deep, innate knowledge and understanding of the sport, and they're passionate about every element of F1.”
Button will be hoping to make a strong impression in the upcoming event in front of his home crowd. However, things are not looking positive for him at the moment. He has been unable to finish on the podium even once this season, which is a huge concern
for the entire team.
After finishing the last race of 2012 on top of the table, the veteran driver was seen as one of the top contenders for winning the title in 2013. He managed to impress one and all during one of the preseason tests, but that turned out to be because of a
technical fault in the car, which gave him extra speed.
Since the start of the season, it was quite clear that McLaren were way behind rival teams and needed some major upgrades to bounce back in the championship. They have tested a few things, but nothing has worked out for them until now.
However, the Silverstone GP has come after a break, which will allow the Woking based squad to think of something better. They have the resources to turn things around, but they have to react quickly otherwise rival teams will get away from them quite easily.
At the moment, McLaren are placed at six in the championship with 37 points, which is not what they would have expected before the start of the season.
