Jenson Button predicting a very different scenario at Malaysian Grand Prix
The 2009 Formula 1 world champion, Jenson Button, has recently stated that he is expecting the high temperatures to play a major role at this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix.
He believes that the results at the upcoming race are going to be quite different as compared to the season’s opening race that took place in Australia 2 weeks ago.
“It's a lot hotter and it's a very tough circuit for the cars, the drivers and especially for the four things touching the road. So I think we are going to see a very different race and mostly because of the tyres in the hot temperatures”, said Button.
Most of the teams claim that the new Pirelli tyres are quite unpredictable and that most of the teams were not aware of its results as a result of which, the teams were unable to perform at their best or come up with the best possible race strategies for
the Australian race.
The durability of the tyres was quite unpredictable as some of the teams went for a 3 pit-stop strategy, while Sauber’s Sergio Perez pulled of an amazing one stop strategy.
Button believes that Sepang is a much harder circuit than Albert Park and the degradation of the tyres is going to be higher in Malaysia comparatively because of which the drivers will have to opt for a completely different strategy.
“We saw one stop from [Sergio] Perez which was the highlight of the race for a lot of people, how he was able to be so consistent, but I don't think that's going to be the same here. I think it will be very different. It's a lot more demanding and a lot
tougher on the tyres”, added the 2009 Formula 1 champion.
McLaren was the only team that challenged Red Bull Racing Team’s pace at the Australian Grand Prix but since the RB7 will contain KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) at the upcoming grand prix, things are going to be a little different than they were at
the Australian grand prix.
Ferrari and Mercedes GP are expected to perform better than they did at the season opener as well.
