Jenson Button reiterates to stay at McLaren for next few years – Formula 1 news
Jenson Button has reiterated his resolve to stay at McLaren for the next few years.
He has expressed loyalty with his team after it was revealed that the Briton received an offer from Ferrari during the preceding year to take the place of Felipe Massa who was struggling at that time too.
Agencia Estado, a Brazilian news agency reported that Button was in conversation with the Scarlet team during the last year before the month of October when he signed a multiyear contract with McLaren.
“I had a listen to what some of the other teams could offer me,” Button confirmed.
Furthermore, Button also said that he will be delighted to have Fernando Alonso of Ferrari as his teammate if Lewis Hamilton would not have been in F1.
Nevertheless, he said that he is very pleased to be at McLaren regardless of the general view in the paddock that the British team is deficient in the kind of passion Ferrari have.
“We have a great atmosphere, everyone thinks it’s a very cold, very grey team. People talk about Ferrari and them being very passionate, and they are. But I don’t think most people realise how passionate this team is, and how much they want to achieve. So
I’m very happy here, and you never know what’s going to happen in the future. I’m not going to sign my life away, but I’ll stay here for the next few years, definitely,” said Button.
Button took a remarkable victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. However, the British driver could not score even a single point in the second race held at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
At present, Button is on third place in the drivers’ standings and has secured 25 points in this season so far. He is eagerly looking forward to perform well in the next race which is to be held at the Shanghai International Circuit in China on April 15,
2012.
McLaren had the most successful pre-season testing programme this year as compared to the other contenders.
Moreover, they are feeling quite confident for the races ahead with their competitive car and pair of drivers, Button and Lewis Hamilton.
