Jenson Button retains top position in FP2 of 2011 Japanese GP at Suzuka circuit – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button once again topped the afternoon Practice session on Friday, October 7, 2011, at the Suzuka circuit.
The Woking-based outfit driver was at the top position in the morning practice session of the Japanese race weekend as well. He also set the fastest time among all drivers in afternoon at the Suzuka circuit in Japan.
After a successful Practice session 1, all the teams took part in the afternoon session. All the drivers once again ended their session on the soft and medium compounds at the Japanese racetrack.
Fernando Alonso, who was at the fourth position for Ferrari in the morning session, has covered most of his gap in afternoon and ended his run at the second place with a gap of 0.174 seconds from Button.
After crashing into the barriers during his last lap of the Practice session 1, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel finished his second Practice session in a decent manner at the Suzuka circuit.
The German came at the third position on the final Practice session 2 classifications.
He was closely followed by his teammate Mark Webber, who had a gap of 0.246 seconds from Button and after struggling with his RB7 car, he finished his session in the fourth spot.
Felipe Massa of Ferrari made improvement in terms of lap time in the afternoon Practice session. He ended up at the fifth position ahead of Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher at the Suzuka circuit.
The Petronas-sponsored team driver was in the eighth spot in the morning session, so he improved his lap time in the second Practice session and finished his run at the sixth position in the end.
His teammate Nico Rosberg was successful in finishing the second Practice run inside the top ten positions following his disappointing morning Practice session.
The German took seventh place for Mercedes GP in the afternoon session at the Suzuka racetrack.
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton could not retain his first Practice session position in afternoon, as his rivals were faster than him. He claimed eighth position for his team in the end.
Renault’s Vitaly Petrov and Sebastien Buemi of Toro Rosso ended their session in the ninth and tenth spots respectively at the Suzuka circuit.
Let’s see whether Button retains his top position until the end of the Japanese Grand Prix.
