Jenson Button reveals he had gearbox problem during FP2 of Singapore GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button has recently revealed that he was facing some major gearbox issues during the second free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix which obstructed him from rejoining the track on Friday.
“During P2, I locked up into Turn 14, but I just kept it out of the barriers. I selected reverse and started to pull back slowly, but then I had no drive. I tried to turn the car around, but there was no room. So I tried to reverse again, and something wasn't
working with the gearbox. We looked at the 'box once we got the car back to the garage, and it's now happily resolved,” he said.
Button was unable to control his car after his car’s front tyres locked up and his car got damaged a lot as it collided with the barriers.
He was unable to figure out the problem with his gearbox after the collision as he tried to play around with the gears in order to fix the problem. However, the team is going to fix this problem later on and probably get the car ready before FP3 in order
to help him make more runs as he was already short on laps for FP2 as a result of this incident.
“I only ran the Prime tyre today and didn't really find a great set-up. It was a little disappointing not to do any more running, because I couldn't improve the package,” he added.
He claims that the team has some good ideas for the weekend but still this problem has definitely affected the flow of the team’s planning as a result of which they would have to work out of the way in order to increase their work speed.
Keeping in mind that McLaren is out of the drivers’ championship at least, the team is still aiming to score some good results in order to finish the 2011 Formula 1 season on a positive note.
