Jenson Button reveals he received offer from Ferrari last year – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has revealed he received an offer during the 2011 Formula 1 season to join Scuderia Ferrari before he signed with his current team once again.
Agencia Estado, a Brazilian news agency expressed that the British driver held some conversations during the preceding year with the Italian team while an announcement was made by McLaren regarding Button’s multiyear contract with them.
Button said he felt pleased with the offer from the Scarlet team.
“I was happy to know that my work was respected. I had a listen to what some of the other teams could offer me,” said Button.
Besides, recently, the Briton stated that he will be pleased to have Fernando Alonso of Ferrari as his teammate if his present fellow driver, Lewis Hamilton would not have been in F1.
“If Lewis (Hamilton) wasn’t in Formula 1, I personally feel it would be exciting having Fernando as a teammate,” he told the Daily Mail. Is he the fastest in the sport? Probably not, and he would probably say the same, but he is very intelligent,” said Button.
Additionally, he said that it will be quite thrilling to work with the Spaniard, Alonso.
“So yeah, he’d be exciting to work with, to work with and to be an enemy, which I’m sure he would be,” added Button.
Furthermore, Estado reported that Button was considered a potential replacement of the Brazilian driver, Felipe Massa in the Scarlet team in 2011.
Moreover, it will be important to mention here that there have been many speculations regarding Massa’s replacement with Sergio Perez of Sauber who showed an incredible performance and finished second in the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix held at Sepang International
Circuit.
However, the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali said that they are ready to support Massa in each and every area in which he may need improvement. He also said that Massa changed his plan of going home to meet his family in Brazil, after the second
race and headed to the team’s factory in Maranello to work with the engineers. He wanted to identify the mistakes in the last two races and to make the necessary developments for the season ahead.
