Jenson Button rues final pit stop during the Chinese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Jenson Button rues his final pit stop which he believes possibly took away the chance to secure his second Grand Prix win for the season.
Button was gaining on the leading Nico Rosberg but had to make one final pit stop. The Brit’s McLaren was all set to leave the pits but the car’s rear jack was stuck and Button lost a few valuable seconds.
Button had raced admirably throughout and started his race from fifth place moving up to third in the start up lap and when at the end of the 12th lap Michael Schumacher had to retire because of another pit stop blunder, Button found himself placed at second.
“Yeah it did (cost me),” Button said. “Before that our race pace was good, especially on the harder of the two tyres, I had some really good battles out there. And then at my last stop, I stopped on the marks and we had a problem with the rear of the car
so I was stopped there for nine or ten seconds I think it was. It was a pity because when I exited the pits I had four cars in front of me, cars that I wouldn't have been racing and I would have had a nice, clear track to hopefully hunt down Nico. It was a
big gap but you're going to give it a go.”
Button added that it was still a good race and overall a fun day for him as he enjoyed the competitiveness and the race. The overtaking was hard but it was there and it is a good feeling to end with a handful of points secured for the team. The season has
been a good one as Button has had good starts in almost all the races so far.
He praised his team and said that they did a great job to get a good start out for him and he was able to get up to P3 because of their effort.
He also praised and congratulated Rosberg for his maiden victory, while jokingly saying that Nico will get many more wins in the future but hopefully not many this year.
