Jenson Button says FIA made the right decision to postpone qualifying in Australia – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that FIA have made the right decision to postpone the qualifying of the 2013 Australian Grand Prix because of rain.
Due to heavy rain, the drivers could only complete the first session of the qualifying at Albert Park in Melbourne and the remaining two sessions will be held on Sunday before the race.
Button has said that the race stewards have made a fair decision to postpone the qualifying. Furthermore, he expressed that all the teams feel really happy when FIA make a good decision to ensure the safety of the drivers.
“It's pretty wet but when we're actually running I think we've got pretty good conditions and as soon as we stop running it chucks it down with rain,” Button said. “It's so difficult for us to judge, when the FIA does something good in terms of safety we're
very happy and then when they do something wrong when it's too wet we're unhappy so it's a really difficult call for FIA, but I think they've called it right.”
Furthermore, he said that they were ready to entertain their fans who were waiting to see them in the stands. However, unfortunately they could not show up because of rain.
“They've been here all day and they've stayed strong even in the rainy and windy conditions but we weren't able to put on a show,” he added.
Nevertheless, he said that they are going to be on track on Sunday for the qualifying and are very much looking forward to entertain their fans.
In addition, the team principal, Martin Whitmarsh also expressed his concern for the fans over the postponement of the qualifying.
Whitmarsh said that nobody in the sport would want to put off an event and everyone was fully ready for the qualifying. But, he asserted that sometimes they have to accept certain decisions to ensure the wellbeing of the sport.
All the contenders are earnestly looking forward to come up stronger in the qualifying tomorrow. Let’s see who takes the pole position and who wins the first race of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
