Jenson Button says McLaren are getting closer to Red Bull Racing – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 McLaren driver Jenson Button has recently admitted that his team is very excited for the Malaysian race, as they feel very close to the Red Bull team after putting up a great performance ahead of them in the last two days of the Malaysian event.
Button said that McLaren’s current shape is much better than last year and they are looking very competitive, among the strong rivals of Formula 1.
McLaren took a good start in the 2011 season, as they finished their initial race successfully in Australia. Both drivers of the team are still working really hard in their season’s practice and qualifying sessions.
The British driver Lewis Hamilton topped the final Sepang practice while he was at the second place, during the qualifying session in Malaysia. His teammate Button also performed well in the last two days, however, he finished in sixth place during yesterday’s
session.
The former champion, Button said that they will try their best to win this race and that they are confident ahead of this race, as they have already made their first successful step from the Australian race to the Malaysian race.
He added, “I personally don't think the Red Bulls have come back to us, I think we have improved the car in terms of set-up because the car was still very young in Melbourne. That is my personal feeling, and we seem to have made a big step compared to the
rest of the field.”
On the other hand, Button’s teammate Hamilton is looking forward to successful races of the remaining 2011 season.
Hamilton said, “I think I had four or five DNFs, a majority of which were through incidents and a few others were mechanical problems. We want to try to avoid those because without those we would have had a much better chance of winning the championship.”
The Malaysian Grand Prix race result will disclose the actual position of the team McLaren and it will be interesting to see how McLaren compete at the Sepang circuit.
