Jenson Button says McLaren faced big issues in the first stint of the British GP – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that they faced some big issues in the first stint of the 2013 British Grand Prix due to which he failed to score any points.
Button struggled during the qualifying at Silverstone circuit and could only secure 10th grid slot for the race. Afterwards, on the race day, he remained unable to score even a single point and came 13th because of some reliability and tyre management issues
which hindered his performance, especially during the start.
The British driver expressed that he didn’t have the pace to compete with his rivals and to gain any position towards the end of the race.
“When the Safety Car came out at the end, I had quite old tyres and was just a sitting duck,” he said. “I couldn't get any tyre temperature. That's one of our issues anyway and when you've got no tread you definitely can't get tyre temperature. I was just
waiting for people to pass me. It was tough.”
“The first stint we went for the primes because nobody else in front was on them, but that was actually the one that grained - front and rear - for me so we had big problems in the first stint,” he added.
Presently, he is standing at 10th place in the drivers’ championship with 25 points. Moreover, he is ahead of Adrian Sutil of Force India and behind his main rival, Romain Grosjean of Lotus. He has faced difficulties in most of the races in the season so
far because of some huge technical issues and has not been able to score competitive points with consistency. His best performance in the season until now is his fifth place finish which he secured in the Chinese GP.
On the other hand, his teammate, Sergio Perez is also struggling with his pace and is standing at 13th place in the drivers’ championship with 12 points. In addition, he is ahead of Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso and behind Jean-Eric Vergne.
Let’s see whether the Woking based team will be able to resolve their issues or not and how the Briton and the Mexican perform in the German GP this weekend.
