Jenson Button says McLaren have to concentrate on race after qualifiers – 2011 Italian Grand Prix
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that after the positive qualifying round at Monza on Saturday, September 10, 2011, his team has to concentrate on Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix and score some good points.
Button added that it is a fact that Red Bull Racing driver Sebastian Vettel was too quick as compared to all drivers during the qualifying. In addition, he stated that he does not think they could have beaten Vettel during Saturday’s session at the Monza
racetrack.
The Woking-based outfit driver will start his 2011 Italian Grand Prix from the third place on the grid on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Monza.
The Brit commented, “I agree with Lewis that even if we got a bit more, we couldn't have challenged Seb. The strange thing is these guys don't look like they are carrying much wing and they are quite a bit quicker than us in last sector with high-speed corners,
so it's difficult to understand.”
He went on to mention, “Their lap times yesterday were very good on the long run, or whatever fuel loads they were running. I think we are going to have a lot of fun tomorrow, I don't think Red Bull will have it all their way. It should be a fun race.”
The 31-year-old driver talked about Vettel’s statements after Qualifiers and said that Vettel says he is looking forward to the 2011 Italian Grand Prix. However, he stated that McLaren are also planning to move in the same direction in which Red Bull are
aiming at the moment.
The McLaren driver believes that the German will be very aggressive for Sunday’s race after securing his pole position. Hence, Button is busy and focusing on how to beat Vettel during the Grand Prix.
Button was 0.502 seconds off the pace of Vettel in the Q3 timesheet. After struggling with his MP4-26 car, he ended his run behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton, who secured the second position for the Italian GP.
Let’s see how Button performs during the Monza race on Sunday following his third position in Q3 in Italy.
