Jenson Button says McLaren still need to resolve a few things – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that they still need to resolve few things to improve their pace and believes they are long way from the front after the second free Friday practice of the 2013 British Grand Prix.
Button came 11th in the timesheets of FP2 after setting his best time of 1 minute and 33.740 seconds. Moreover, he stayed ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Sauber and behind Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
The British driver said that almost all the contenders are facing difficulties with their updates because of the bumps on the track. However, he asserted that they are struggling more as compared to their rivals. Therefore, he insisted that they need to
work harder to resolve their issues in order to strike back in the season ahead.
“The car doesn't feel too bad out there but we're just slow,” he said. “It's less bumpy than Canada but I think everybody is struggling a little bit with bumps because of where they in apexes, but on straights we don't have the issues we had in Canada. We
still need to resolve a few things with balance but we're still going to be a long way from front.”
Furthermore, he expressed that it is quite impossible for him to make his way into the third qualifying session because they are struggling with some huge reliability issues at the moment which have affected their pace very badly.
“I can't run in seventh even through turn one because it just doesn't pull. We're a long way off. I'm one and half seconds off the quickest car so that's a good reason to be disappointed,” he added.
At present, the 2009 world champion is standing at 10th place in the drivers’ championship with 25 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Adrian Sutil of Force India and behind Romain Grosjean of Lotus. He has not been able to score competitive points with
consistency in the season so far because of some technical and tyre management issues.
Let’s see how he performs in his home race this weekend and whether the Woking based team will be able to resolve their problems or not.
