Jenson Button says McLaren’s main aim is to win constructors’ championship – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that their main aim is to win the 2012 Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championship while he said that he will try to claim his second title too.
Button has secured sixth place finish in the Hungarian Grand Prix and is currently standing at 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 76 points along with Romain Grosjean of Lotus. Moreover, he is behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and is ahead
of Sauber pair of drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi.
However, he is 88 points behind the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari who is currently leading the drivers’ rankings with 164 points.
Although, at present, he is far behind the two-time world champion, nonetheless, he is positively looking forward to perform with consistency in the races ahead and is aiming to fight for his second world championship title.
Furthermore, he said that if his chances to win the title end, he will surely support his teammate and compatriot, Lewis Hamilton so that they can score more points in the upcoming races as their main objective is to claim the constructors’ trophy.
“I don’t think the team will actually ask me to do that,” Button told Sky Sports. “I personally feel that until I can't win the championship there is a chance, you really do never know. But, I am also a team player and it is very important for the team to
win the Constructors' Championship and that is one of our biggest aims this year.”
“The last few races have been very good for the team, I got a second and Lewis got win. I feel that the upgrades on the cars for those races have really, really helped us,” he added.
In addition, he said that they have performed amazingly well in the last couple of races after facing huge difficulties during the previous few grands prix. Over and above, he said that they are positively looking forward to come up even stronger with some
major updates in their car in the approaching races after the ongoing mid-season break.
Let’s see how the 2009 world champion performs in the season ahead.
