Jenson Button says Mercedes have been consistently quick in testing so far – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that Mercedes have been consistently quick in this year’s testing so far as compared to all the other teams.
Button old-teammate, Lewis Hamilton signed an agreement with the Brackley based team during the last season to replace Michael Schumacher, who has retired from the sport, in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Despite the speculations of Mercedes’ uncompetitive car, Hamilton and his new teammate Nico Rosberg have been very quick behind the wheels of their cars in the pre-season testing until now.
Even though, the 2009 world champion has said that the Silver Arrows are quicker than any other contender in testing. But, he asserted that there is still some time left in which they can make considerable advancements.
“I'd say one team that has been consistently quick on their runs is the Mercedes more than anyone else,” Button said. “We'd be lying if we said we didn't look at times. That's what all the timing screens in the trucks are for, otherwise we'd turn them off
wouldn't we? But to try and get an understanding of where people are is very difficult.”
Besides, he expressed full confidence in their new car and said that there is still a lot more to come from their side. He also said that they are positively looking forward to perform well in this season.
“It's a nice car to drive and there's nothing that scares me about the car, I just still feel we can do a lot more with it than we are at the moment,” he said. “That's the exciting part I think.”
It will be important to mention that the Woking based squad faced a lot of technical issues during the preceding season because of which their drivers could not score competitive points in quite a few races and they failed to win the championship.
McLaren secured third place finish in the last year’s constructors’ championship. In addition, they remained ahead of Lotus and behind their main rival, Ferrari.
Let’s see whether they will be able to resolve their reliability issues or not and how Button performs alongside his new teammate, Sergio Perez in this season.
