Jenson Button says Michael Schumacher deserves a lot of respect – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that being a record championship holder, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes deserves a lot of respect.
Button praised the performance of the most celebrated driver in the history of the sport and said that he was very much pleased to see Schumacher on the podium in the European Grand Prix this year.
“Michael has had some good races,” said Button. “It was cool to see him on podium in Valencia.
Moreover, he said that the legendary driver, Schumacher has won seven world championship titles in his career so far and has scored 91 grand prix victories. Hence, he said that the veteran German driver do deserve the honour and respect from everyone.
“He has seven World Championship titles and 91 wins. He deserves a lot of respect,” the British driver said.
It is to be noted that there have been many speculations that Schumacher’s comeback in F1 couple of years back has not been quite impressive as compared to Kimi Raikkonen’s return in the current season with Lotus.
However, the 2009 world champion believes that since Raikkonen is still young and has been taking part in the World Rally Championship in the last two years, therefore, he seems to be well in form right in the first year of his return. Furthermore, he said
that the Finnish driver kept his eye on the game and didn’t remain out for a longer period of time.
“He is also much younger. And he continued driving in rallies in which you need good reflexes. He kept his focus on F1 and was not far away from the sport for a long time,” he said.
Nevertheless, the Briton said that the Finn has done a marvellous job in the first half of the current season as he has secured five podiums until now. In addition, he said that the 2007 world champion would have performed even better if he had raced in
the previous season too.
“Kimi is doing a great job this season and I think he could be doing an even better job if he had been in F1 last year,” he added.
