Jenson Button says Sergio Perez needs to calm down – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that his teammate, Sergio Perez needs to calm down after they made two very risky contacts in the 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix.
Perez showed extreme aggressiveness in the fourth round of the season at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir to overtake Button at two places to gain a position.
However, the British driver managed to refrain from a probable accident at both the times.
The 2009 world champion asserted that he has never experienced such ferociousness from any of his teammates in the past. However, he expressed that he is really
astonished by the behaviour of his new teammate who wiggled his wheels at him in the last race at a very high speed on the straight line.
“I've raced with many team-mates over the years and with quite an aggressive team-mate in Lewis, but I'm not used to driving down the straight and then my team-mate
coming along and wiggling his wheels at me and banging wheels with me at 300km/h,” he said.
Besides, he said that such belligerence is very common in karting and the drivers become more matured when they join F1, but the 23-year-old has not developed himself
as a responsible driver until now. Moreover, he warned Perez to calm down until something really serious happens on track.
Additionally, he said that the young driver has a remarkable pace and admired his performance in the Bahrain GP. But, he insisted that the Mexican driver need to
act like a matured driver on track.
“That's something you do in karting and normally you grow out of it but that's obviously not the case with Checo. Soon something serious will happen so he has to
calm down. He's extremely quick and he did a great job today but some of it is unnecessary and an issue when you are doing those speeds,” he added.
He also said that he struggled with the tyre degradation issue in the last race due to which he could not attain competitive result for his team. The Briton came
10th in the race while Perez managed to claim an impressive 6th place finish. It will be exciting to see how they perform in the season ahead.
