Jenson Button says engine mapping rule going to hurt every team especially Red Bull – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Jenson Button has stated that the latest tweak from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) about the engine mapping is going to hurt every team in the 2011 Formula 1 season, especially Red Bull Racing.
Button emphasised that the Milton Keynes-based team is the one going to get the biggest blow from this rule.
The engine mapping rule is going to restrict F1 teams from using an aggressive design in the qualifiers due to which they are able to exceed their race speed. Red Bull have been using this extreme engine mapping to get unmatchable times in the qualifiers
and have owned all the seven pole positions of the 2011 season.
Button thinks that Red Bull will lose more than any other team after this rule is implemented starting from the Valencia GP.
“I think it will be a bigger difference for Red Bull, If you look at their pace in qualifying compared to their race pace it is very different, so I am hoping they are going to have more issues than we are in qualifying,” stated Button.
Talking about McLaren’s losses due to the engine mapping rule, the Brit stated, “I think we are all going to be hurt by the engine mapping rule. I still think that they will be quicker than us, but I hope we can get closer in qualifying so we can fight them
in the race.”
The FIA sought out that the extreme engine maps used by teams in the qualifiers not only increase the fuel consumption but also reduce the engine life.
However, Button thinks that all 12 teams are going to suffer from pace in the Valencia qualifiers.
Apart from the engine clampdown rule, the Blown Diffuser’s early exit from the 2011 Formula 1 season is also going to trouble Red Bull Racing.
The Valencia Grand Prix will be the last one with the Blown Diffuser so it is expected that the Red Bull team will prevail once again. Let’s see how that transpires on Sunday, June 26, 2011.
