Jenson Button says he is disappointed after British Grand Prix retirement – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Formula 1 driver Jenson Button has said that he is disappointed for retiring from the 2011 British Grand Prix.
Button had to pull out from an interesting battle in the Silverstone Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season after a wrong pit-stop caused him not only retirement but also a chance to finish on podium in front of his home crowd in 12 years.
Button was disappointed about his effort and stated that Red Bull were definitely catchable in the Silverstone race. The Brit also stated that he was unable to put on a good show for his home crowd for which he was sorry.
Button had a good start to the race and was well on course for a podium fight against the Red Bull team when on his final pit-stop, he only managed to exit the pit lane to find out his right front wheel went loose.
He retired from the race with just 12 laps to go and was very upset at that time but now he apologises to his fans.
“We all make mistakes, and you always hope they won't happen, but this is even more disappointing as it's in front of my home crowd. I was really enjoying the race, I had a couple of good battles out there, and the pace was very good. I'm just sorry we couldn't
do better because there was definitely a podium on the cards,” commented Button.
The Brit further added that a good fight with Red Bull was on at that time.
“I don't think we could have fought with (race winner) Fernando (Alonso), but with the Red Bulls it could have been interesting. So sorry to the fans, but I'll come back next year,” concluded Button.
Before the Silverstone race, Button was second on the drivers’ table and closest to challenge Sebastian Vettel but as the result showed that Button was unable to convert the opportunity into something special, he now finds himself fifth on the table.
Nevertheless, the next race will be contested in Germany and it will be interesting to see how well the Brit fares there.
