Jenson Button says new rules in 2014 will hurt teams with new drivers – Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button has said that the drivers who will change teams in 2014 will be facing difficulty because of the new technical regulations being introduced in that season.
“If a team has a new driver in 2014, I think that's very tricky for the driver and for the team to really understand the right direction,” Button said. “Whereas if you have been working with the team for a long period of time you understand what you need
from the car and what works. So in terms of engineering there's a lot of work that needs to be done and in terms of the drivers and engineers there needs to be a good understanding.”
Button joined McLaren in 2010 and then signed a multi-year deal with the team in 2011. The British driver has stated that if everything goes according to plan than he will still be with the team in 2014. He said that driving with new technical regulations
in 2014 will be equal to driving in a new category so being with the same engineers whom he has an understanding with will help him in that season. He added that he is very excited about the 2014 F1 season.
One of the major changes in 2014 F1 season will be the replacement of the current V8 engines with turbocharged V6 engines. F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, has repeatedly given his opinion against this change and many think that these smaller engines will make
F1 boring. On the other hand, Button thinks that there is no truth in this since F1 has been going on for a long a time and there were no V10 or V12 engines before either but it was still as exciting as it is today.
Button is set to take the role of the lead driver at McLaren as his former teammate, Lewis Hamilton, will be joining Mercedes AMG in 2013 F1 season. Button’s new teammate will be the former Sauber F1 driver, Sergio Perez.
The driver has won one F1 championship that was in 2009 and is also the last driver to win the championship before Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel began his three year title streak.
