Jenson Button says revised MP4-28 clearly different - Formula 1 news
McLaren’s Jenson Button has claimed that his car will appear to be quite different from the first four races of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
The British team was unable to deliver the expected results at the start of the season, but they are bringing in some upgrades, which might help the drivers to
challenge the front runners during the Spanish GP.
Looking at the upgraded car, Button stated, “There is a lot that is different, you will be able to see [the changes to] the aerodynamics of the car and you will
understand the difference in airflow of the car.It is still the same colour, but the edges have changed.”
However, the veteran driver is still not much optimistic about his chances against some of the better teams like Red Bull, Ferrari, Lotus and Mercedes.
He said, “There are some really cool-looking little bits on the car but I don't think it is going to be enough to fight right at the front. We will see an improvement
and hopefully that will help us understand the airflow of the car a little bit better.”
Although most of the teams have been struggling with tyre wear, McLaren have been lacking the pace too. The team was quite competitive during the 2012 season and
managed to fight rivals Red Bull until the very end of the season for the Constructor’s Championship.
However, this year has been completely different for the team and it is currently behind Force India in sixth place.
Button has been able to qualify in the top 10 somehow, but his new partner Sergio Perez has been struggling to find the pace from the car. This has really put the
team into a vulnerable position.
However, Perez did show some signs of improvement during the Bahrain GP and scored some crucial points after a thrilling battle with his own team-mate. He was criticised
for being too aggressive, but the overall result helped him gain some confidence in the end.
Both Button and Perez will be hoping that they have the pace to fight for podium finishes from the next race onwards otherwise the leaders will pull away from them
very quickly.
