Jenson Button says season’s unpredictability is strange for fans – Formula 1 news
McLaren driver Jenson Button has said that the fans are finding the unpredictable 2012 Formula 1 season so far strange as there have been six different winners in the first six races.
Button took an amazing victory in the season opener held at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia and became the first race winner in this season. Contrarily, he has only been able to score 2 points in the last three races. However, he clarified his position
by relating his performance to Pastor Maldonado of Williams.
“You say I'm quite inconsistent but Maldonado has had four no-score races, and then he's had a win and an eighth, so it's pretty up in the air,” he said.
He added, “Clearly everyone is excited about so many different winners, which initially was great for the fans and great for the sport. But there will come a time when fans will say, ‘So anyone can win a grand prix, everyone can lose a grand prix like that?’
I think they're finding it a little bit strange now. I don't know but hopefully a pattern will emerge after the next couple of races and we'll understand the teams and drivers we need to beat to win the championship.”
The 2009 world champion is currently standing at 7th position between the pair of Lotus drivers, Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen in the drivers’ championship with 45 points.
On the other hand, his teammate, Lewis Hamilton is presently at fourth place in the drivers’ rankings with 63 points and has performed quite consistently in the season until now.
It will be important to mention that regardless of the ongoing difficulties faced by McLaren, the team principal, Martin Whitmarsh said that their drivers are capable enough of winning this year’s championship.
In addition, he said that they are trying their best to make the essential developments and the necessary preparations so as to improve the pace of their car for the approaching races.
Over and above, Button said that he is not upset after his poor performances in the last several races while he said that he is positively looking forward to perform well in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal
on June 10.
